The Georgia Department of Education requires that all students complete 23 credit hours in order to graduate. The information on this page will help guide parents and students to academic success.

Credits required to progress to the next grade:

10th grade - 5 credits

11th grade - 11 credits

12th grade - 17 credits

GRADUATE - 23 credits 

FRESHMAN YEAR:

  1. Be the best version of yourself!

  2. Get Involved

  3. Strive to make all A's and B's

SOPHOMORE YEAR:

  1. Consider honors, AP, and/or Dual enrollment courses

  2. Consider leadership roles in clubs/sports/activities

  3. Continue to make all A's and B's

JUNIOR YEAR:

  1. Consider honors, AP, and/or Dual enrollment courses

  2. Consider how to leave a lasting impression in your community

  3. Continue to make all A's and B's

  4. Create a resume

  5. Take SAT and/or ACT

  6. Start college/university search (Calculate GPA)

  7. Start researching scholarship opportunities

SENIOR YEAR!

  1. Consider honors, AP, and/or Dual enrollment courses

  2. Have FUN

  3. Continue to make all A's and B's

  4. Finalize resume

  5. Take SAT and/or ACT at least 2x total

  6. Finalize college/university search (3-5 schools)

  7. Apply for scholarships

  8. Apply for FASFA

  9. Ask for letters of recommendation

POINTS TO PONDER:

  • Are you an ATHLETE? You have to qualify with NCAA! Click here for more info.

  • Honors courses require 85+ average in subject; Advanced Placement (AP) courses require 90+ average in subject; Dual Enrollment requires 2.0+ GPA and test scores (see Dual Enrollment tab for more info)

  • HOPE Grant requires the college student maintain a 2.5 GPA in; HOPE Scholarship requires an unweighted GPA of 3.0 in ACADEMIC CLASSES ONLY; Zell Miller Scholarship requires an unweighted GPA of 3.7 in ACADEMIC CLASSES ONLY (See Paying for College tab for more info)

  • Weighted grades include an additional 7 points if the course was Honors, Advanced Placement, or Dual Enrollment; Unweighted grades are grades BEFORE the 7 points were added.
